Questions & Answers

What struck you about IMET when you joined our graduate program?

My journey with IMET began whilst completing my final year at Heriot-Watt University through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). Even as a student, I was impressed by IMET’s focus on innovation and its commitment to developing technology that drives real progress. The collaborative and fast-paced environment stood out immediately, and it was clear this was a place where ideas quickly turn into action.

What opportunities or projects helped shape your career with IMET?

After joining IMET as a KTP Associate, I spent over two years leading R&D projects to develop scalable new technologies. This experience gave me exposure to both the academic and commercial sides of the business. Since becoming a full-time Project Engineer in 2024, I’ve supported major improvement programs in the US and Europe, including new installations that enhance our global capabilities.

How has IMET’s culture helped you?

IMET’s culture encourages curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning. I’ve always been supported to develop beyond my role — using my KTP resources to take business courses and later completing an MBA with distinction while working full time. The support from senior colleagues and access to diverse projects have been instrumental in shaping my career.

Which achievements are you particularly proud of?

I’m especially proud of my involvement in the installation and commissioning of IMET’s titanium wash line in France. Seeing it progress from design to operation was hugely rewarding, particularly training operators and sharing technical knowledge to help the team grow in confidence and expertise.

What is the most rewarding part of working at IMET?

The variety of work is what I enjoy most — no two days are the same. From process design and engineering calculations to commissioning and hands-on problem-solving, every project presents new challenges and opportunities to make a tangible impact across IMET’s global operations.

What advice would you give to graduates considering joining IMET?

Get involved in as much as you can and don’t be afraid to ask questions or challenge established ways of working. IMET is a place where initiative and curiosity are valued, and where every contribution — no matter how small — can help shape the company’s future.
